ONE WEEK AND COUNTING: ALL READY FOR THE CUMBRIAN CHALLENGE 17
With just one week to go until Harris Lamb’s intrepid explorers head North for the Cumbrian Challenge, the team has been taking its training very seriously.
The past couple of weekends has seen the 12-strong troupe of hikers hitting the hills in preparation for the challenge ahead, which will see them raising funds for Walking With The Wounded.
Tom Morley, team leader, said: “People are really throwing themselves into their training, with groups heading to Long Mynd, Snowdon and the Lakes to get used to different terrains and ascents as we get ready for the May 13th challenge.
“All 12 of us are looking forward to heading up to Cumbria on Friday and tackling the route – it’s been a great opportunity to spend time with one another outside of work, and we’re looking forward to a fun weekend in aid of a brilliant cause. All we can hope for now is that the weather is kind to us.”
Tom will be joined by Charles D’Auncey, Rob Pinks, Andy Groves, Kristie Loakes, Jonathan Aspinall, Simon Hawley, Justin Marshall, Samrine Aslam, Bal Dhillon and Lee Woodcock, as well as Gert Corfield, from Harris Lamb’s client Dignity.
Walking With The Wounded was set up seven years ago, and raises funds for the re-education and re-training of wounded servicemen and women who were forced to leave the Armed Forces as a result of their injuries and were not prepared for the move from one career to another.
“WWTW helps fund training and education to help them find a career, so that they can support themselves and re-build a life in the civilian workplace, while also providing a support network to all injured veterans. It’s a very worthwhile cause and we’re hoping we can really help to make a difference,” he added.
The 29km hike will take the team in 2,000m of ascents including the peaks of Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag, Fairfield and Great Rigg – a route described by the organisers as ‘going to “Hel” and back’.
Each team taking part commits to raising a minimum of £1,000 to help a wounded veteran back into employment.
