MAKING A DIFFERENCE: BECOMING A MAYOR’S MENTOR

Since becoming the first Mayor of the West Midlands last month, Andy Street has swiftly set about starting to realise his plans for the region. One of the first things he’s done, which we think is a fantastic initiative, is his Mayor’s Mentors scheme.

The concept is simple: Andy is calling on people to share their experience and knowledge with young people to help them learn life skills and gain confidence to help them realise their potential and prepare for their future careers.
It’s something that at least one of the Harris Lamb team will be committing to as Andy is looking to get 1,000 Mayor’s Mentors on board within his first 100 days in office.

Richard Fantham, director, said: “I think it’s a superb idea – across the region there is a huge pool of talent, expertise and resource which can provide experience and insight to young people to prepare them for the future.
“This is a fantastic initiative – it’s an opportunity to really give something back to the community and have a positive impact on the region. We’ve always believed we have a responsibility to help others achieve their potential and advance their careers, and this is a chance for everyone to do their bit.”

Mentors are asked to devote some of their time – just a couple of hours a month – to meet with a young person face to face or virtually to give support and guidance, and discuss their studies and career opportunities.
