Three Jump Into The Saddle for Pledge 150

Eat your heart our Bradley Wiggins: While most of us are putting on more layers and deciding that it’s time to put on the heating and stay indoors, three of Harris Lamb’s more sporting team players donned their cycle gear and helmets this week to hit the road in an epic charity bike ride.

Neil Harris, Fiona Mellor and Andy Smith leapt into the saddle to cycle from Birmingham to Manchester on Thursday in aid of LandAid and Pledge 150.

They joined 120 other riders from the property industry at 6.30am, notching up 92 miles and 6,100 ft of climbing and a total of nine hours in the saddle (or seven for Andy, who is a bit of a show off and rode with the elite group).

Fiona said: “It wasn’t an easy challenge, but it was in aid of a brilliant cause. Pledge 150 is a campaign being led by both LandAid and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to celebrate RICS’ 150th year.

“It aims to raise £2.25m to fund 150 bed spaces for young people who have experienced homelessness via a whole range of activities that have been taking place throughout the year.

“Fortunately, the weather was kind to us, and we were able to distract ourselves from the searing pain in our legs by taking in some fantastic scenery along the way as we travelled through Lichfield, Leek and Macclesfield, and skirting the Peak District – which meant more than a few nasty hills.

“It was a fantastic day with a great bunch of people, and it’s fair to say we really felt we earned the pizza and beer at the end of it!”
