FORMER BLACK COUNTRY BUTCHER SET FOR RESIDENTIAL REDEVELOPMENT

A former Black Country butcher’s shop site has been placed on the market for residential redevelopment.

C D Field Butchers on Lake Street, Lower Gornal, ceased trading after 116 years last summer, and residential agents at Harris lamb have now been instructed by the family to sell the land.

The 0.311-acre site, which can be accessed from both Lake Street and Loweswater Drive, housed the popular butcher’s shop, a meat wholesaling factory and an abattoir, and has outline planning permission in place for nine new homes.

Offers are being sought for the land.

James Willcock, of the residential land team, said: “This is a great opportunity in an area where there is a real desire for new housing.

“C D Field butcher was a well-known landmark in the area in its heyday, and with the family having chosen to sell, the site is set for a new lease of life to help fulfil that demand.

“The land parcel itself is made up of the former meat wholesaling factory, abattoir and shop, above which are two self-contained flats and a range of offices. There are then a number of single-storey ancillary storage buildings surrounding a secure yard area, which is accessed from Loweswater Drive.

“Once cleared, the area will provide a setting for nine dwellings, with outline permission having already been granted for three three-bedroom townhouses, three two-bed apartments and three one-bed apartments,” he added.

Lying within easy reach of local shops and amenities including the Black Country Museum, Dudley Castle and Dudley Zoo, the site also benefits from convenient public transport links to Wolverhampton City Centre and its neighbouring towns Dudley and Stourbridge.
