HARRIS LAMB HOLDS FUNDRAISING DRIVE FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
Harris Lamb has raised more than £500 to fund vital cancer care and support.
The funds have been raised by selling tickets for a luxury hamper prize draw in place of its traditional coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, with the winning tickets to be selected this week.
Tina Cannon, Senior Property Manager for the business, said: “To say that 2020 has been an unsettling year is something of an understatement. Understandably, Covid-19 has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds, but meanwhile, thousands of people continue to be diagnosed with cancer every day.
“For years now, the Harris Lamb team has taken part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning initiative, raising awareness of the vital work that Macmillan Cancer Support does, providing emotional, physical and financial support to those living with cancer.
“Ordinarily, our offices would be taken over by a wonderful collection of cakes and we’d collect as much money as possible by selling them off to our colleagues and clients. This year though, that’s not been possible – not only are our offices not at full capacity as we ensure social distancing across all departments, but the days of sharing food are gone for the foreseeable.
“However, we didn’t want the charity to suffer – especially in a year when so many people have gone undiagnosed through fear of not visiting their doctors to report symptoms. Cancer, unfortunately, has not gone away, and it’s essential that charities like Macmillan continue to benefit from our support to continue to provide their essential services,” she said.
In lieu of a traditional coffee morning, the business has arranged a prize draw to win one of three tea, cake and Champagne hampers. The draw will take place this Friday (2nd October) and to date Harris Lamb has raised £580 for the cause.
Tina added: “This money will play a vital role within the charity’s work. A £600 donation, for example, could pay for a Macmillan social care worker or family support worker for more than a week, helping patients, family members, and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer, or keep a typical Macmillan information and support centre stocked with all the information resources it needs to support people affected by cancer for over two months.
“I’m hoping we’ll manage to add a few more pounds to our grand total before the draw takes place, and I’d like to thank everyone for their support,” she added.
