HARRIS LAMB ECOLOGIST SECURES LEVEL ONE BAT LICENCE

Harris Lamb’s Environment team has another bat ecologist within its ranks after one of the team secured his Level One Bat Licence.

Josh Randhawa, who joined the business two years ago, has been honing his skillset to work with various protected species, and his efforts have been rewarded with this latest achievement.

While some bat survey work can be done without a licence, one is required for a surveyor to undertake activities , such as gaining entry to a roost.

Josh said: “Ever since I joined the business, I’ve been committed to gain experience to work towards obtaining a Level 1 bat licence to ensure that we could safely and legally undertake extensive survey work on behalf of our clients.

“To achieve the first level of this qualification, I had to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of bat ecology, identification, legislation and survey skills, and that I had the necessary practical experience.

“In the past two years I have been fortunate enough to have the support of my ecology colleagues and shadow licensed surveyors, as well as having undertaken many surveys and attended a wide range of training courses – all of which have enabled me to attain my level 1 licence.”

The licence will allow Josh to observe bats and is recognised as best practice for a licensed surveyor to undertake building inspections and preliminary roost assessments.

Josh now aims to apply for his level 2 licence at the end of this year.

Director of Harris Lamb’s Environment team, Dr Holly Smith, said: “I’m really pleased Josh has another licence to his name. He’s a very dedicated member of the team and I have no doubt that he will be successful in securing his level 2 licence following further survey experience.”
