HARRIS LAMB OVERSEES SALE OF FORMER MALVERN COLLEGE TO MAKE WAY FOR NEW SEND SCHOOL

The Residential Land and Development team at Harris Lamb have sold the former Malvern Hills College site to accommodate a new SEND school.

Acting for Warwickshire College Group, the business sold the property to the Aurora Group, which operates a number of schools for youngsters with special educational needs and disabilities.

James Willcock, who oversaw the sale, said: “This is wonderful news for the area. The college closed in 2021, and with more than 1,000 children in Malvern having SEND requirements, there could not be a more fitting use for the campus.

“The 22,500sq ft college buildings currently house a range of facilities including classrooms, offices, a refectory and pottery studios and, having purchased the freehold of the site, the Aurora Group can now oversee a full refurbishment of the buildings to fit them out to their desired specification in order to establish a 120-place SEND school, with the aim to open next Spring.

“Located on the edge of Malvern town centre, the campus on Albert Road North is very well appointed for Great Malvern railway station and is close to Manor Park Sports Club, which hosts a range of outdoor and indoor sports facilities.

“The property is also bordered by an area of public open space, and the Aurora Group has been involved in a number of discussions with Malvern Civic Society prior to the purchase regarding the use of the premises outside school hours to benefit the wider community,” he said.

“We are delighted to have been involved with a sale that is going to have such an important impact on the people of Malvern, and we look forward to seeing the progress of the new-look school,” added James.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire College Group said: “This marks a positive step forward for the continued use of the site as an educational facility. We are excited that The Aurora Group will be expanding in the area, offering valuable provision to SEND students and ensuring the site’s legacy as a place for learning and growth.”
