Bright Lights, Big Noise: BHX’s Midnight Runway Run

When it comes to pounding pavements, Fiona Mellor is no novice – she’s a regular participant in high profile running events around the UK, but she was part of a brand new charity challenge at midnight on Saturday.

Fiona, of our Valuation team, was one of 150 people involved in the very first Midnight Runway Run at Birmingham Airport

The run, in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice, was just two miles long, but the surreal circumstances made it one to remember.

Fiona said: “This was such an unusual experience. While many of us have peered down at the concrete from on board a plane as we taxi for take-off, being at ground level, on foot, and surrounded by the bright lights and big noise of a major UK airport is a very strange feeling.

“I was lucky enough to be invited to take part by Melanie Cameron, Head of Property at Birmingham Airport, and she told me that in her 19 years at the airport, even she had never set foot on the runway until Saturday night, so I do feel like I was part of a very privileged few. It was such an experience!”
