Harris Lamb has acquired a site and secured planning permission for an affordable housing scheme in Smethwick.
The 1.1 acre plot of land on Little Moor Hill and South Street was purchased by the business’ Residential Land team for around £500,000 on behalf of an undisclosed developer.
Chris Jones, Head of Residential Land, said: “This scheme has received huge support from Sandwell Council, and we’re currently in negotiations with a leading Housing Association with a view to construction starting this summer with the support of a Homes England grant.
“There has been considerable support from the Government around the provision of affordable housing across the country, and with a high demand throughout the West Midlands and the backing of local politicians, this is extremely positive news for the region.”
Chris said that the scheme would comprise of high-specification two- and three-bedroom homes available for both shared ownership and rent. He added: “With affordability issues getting more challenging to enter the housing market for a increasing numbers of people, it’s great to see properties of this standard being made available for both buyers and those seeking a rental at an affordable rate
“We’re looking forward to concluding negotiations and construction commencing in the coming weeks.”
